Copywriting is a field that stems out from Advertising industry wherein a copywriter gives birth to a new concept which influences the target audience to positively subscribe to a product, concept or a service. In a narrow sense the word “copy” means a printed / painted message or a spoken dialogue to convey information of the product to target audience. Copywriting is the craft where a copywriter has to market or promote a product, business, person or an idea by his ability to craft his creativity powered work. There are several opportunities to grow in the Advertising agencies as a copywriter and various hierarchical levels needs to be eventually cleared in order to work at the most senior most position as a copywriting director.

A copywriter is a very important person in the creation of the Ad. A copywriter does not work alone and has to work in tangent with other creatively inclined people in an ad agency such as Graphic designers, Art directors and Visualizers. Copywriters are provided with a written brief where in a whole lot of potential information about the target audience to whom the product should appeal is mentioned. The brief has to be specific in its view after comparing it to the product of the competitors. A copywriter’s job should not be confused with that of a copy editor.

As a copywriter you can choose to work in a variety of promotional media such as the internet, television radio etc .You can also choose work as a freelancer. Copy writing can be studied as a part of advertising courses, which are offered by almost all management colleges in India these days.
